"Solar" Power Assisted Cover Reel

There are no short cuts when getting the motor and gearbox right.

Like most pool reel manufacturers, we initially looked at using 'off the shelf' tubular motors for the transmission. We differ from most though, in that looking was all we did.
Starting from a clean sheet of paper, we specified the highest possible performance right from the start, capable of pulling in even the heaviest of foam pool covers and able to do this continuously rather than just short bursts.
We also took the decision to make sure the motor was inside the end stand, rather than inside the main tube. When putting the motor inside the main tube, there is always the chance that a user might run a screw into it while fitting a pool cover or a strap. A small possibility, but one worth considering, hence we have the motor safely inside the end stand.
Having the motor in the end stand also ensures it's kept dry, being well away from the rain and a wet pool cover.

Quick spec:

Motor rated at 12Vdc, 10A (limited by controller), continuous operation permitted
Gearbox rated at 370:1 reduction, 40Nm OP torque, all metal with keyed OP shaft
Position encoder giving position resolution down to 0.1 degrees of OP angle

The Vanguard uses a unique high strength motor / gearbox designed specifically for the Vanguard electric pool reel. The transmission train is all steel giving years of service.

The Vanguard Professional pool reel has a motor that is designed for continuous operation (even though we know you won't need this!)

The motor and gearbox has incredible torque so we have also added a built in electronic limiter which stops the motor during a stall condition. Once the stall or jam is resolved, the motor will restart when you ask it to.
